In this day and age even infants are prone to identity theft. Your infant should have his own identity theft protection plan.
Social security numbers are the official identity our government uses for each person in society. Today every child born in the United States now is automatically assigned a social security number (SSN). Theft of this number and the child’s name is virtually all that is needed to use the perfectly squeaky clean identity. Identity fraud protection just became more cumbersome. Not only do most parents not think about this aspect of their child’s identity, their child is an easier target. Another item in today’s society on the rise may attribute to higher theft percentages of children’s identities. Divorce is the only way life many children can remember. Even a parent may choose to use the child’s identity and ruin their credit. Maybe dad just cannot afford the bills and uses the child’s identity to start a new account everywhere. Out of sheer necessity, the parent chooses to open another account in the child’s name and start fresh.
Any prudent parent wants to do anything they can to protect their children. Many young parents cannot even comprehend a theft protection program for themselves or their kids. It never occurs to them that their children are prime targets and that protect identity measures are necessary. Free credit reports may be obtained on your children as well as yourself. The necessity of law mandated free credit reports is a shame. If one is not available, do not fret. Good news indeed. If you have no credit history, no one has your identity. It is pretty unlikely a three year old will have a credit history. It would make more sense for burglars to stick with stealing dead persons’ identities as they surely do not have an id theft protection program. Usually no one would be checking up on a deceased person’s credit history.
So not only should you prevent identity theft on yourself, but also watch the identities of your young children.
